Where did you sleep last night?
Keep A Roof Over Their Heads
A Breakfast to Change Lives Forever
Nobody should have to wonder where they are going to sleep tonight, but this is the reality for hundreds of women and families in our community. There are 1718 people using shelters in Halifax
. For over 25,000 families in Halifax, there is a thin line between having money for groceries and rent, and being out on the streets.
YWCA Halifax is there for women and families at critical turning points in their lives. Our programs alleviate and prevent
homelessness, increase economic security, and offer a path to
self sufficiency. This year YWCA Halifax will provide over
13,000 days of support services to formerly homeless women and families. The YWCA is Canada’s largest single provider of shelter services for women and families.
But too many are falling through the cracks.

•
Each WISH participant receives a fully furnished apartment.
•
A scattered supportive housing program serving 24 women.
•
Each WISH participant receives one-on-one support services including; home visitation, financial management and trusteeship, case planning, participant advocacy, service referral and basic life skills development.
•
WISH recognized as a best practice in Canada and the only program of its type in Atlantic Canada.
YWCA's WISH program helps the most vulnerable women in our community to turn their lives around, and is a real solution to alleviating and preventing homelessness.
HERizons
YWCA's Herizons program is supportive affordable housing for single mothers attending post-secondary.
•
Nova Scotia has the highest proportion of single parent families in Canada.
•
Without a program like Herizons, single mothers in the HRM are likely to experience a a high risk of homelessness while attending post-secondary.
•
Halifax has one of the highest university tuition in Canada.
YWCA's Herizons program not only represents an immediate alleviation of housing instability for single mothers, it also helps single mothers achieve the education they need to break the cycle of poverty for themselves, their family, and successive generations.
